There's more to a stockfence than simply securing animals in a field. A wire fence needs to be strong enough to withstand pressure, while minimising the risk of harm to the animals if they collide or rub against it. It also needs to be high enough to keep animals in and threats out, yet offer excellent visibility at all times. Betafence built its reputation on fences for stock and is still a world leader in this area today.
Ultimately, it’s not only about matching durability and tensile strength to the needs of the location, but also about adding creativity and imagination to the solution. In the 21st century, keeping animals safe isn’t only about farming. It’s as much about conservation and understanding the varying needs of both site and species. The right kind of well-situated barrier alongside roads and railways can keep animals safer, for example – and that’s something everyone would like to see.
Strong, durable fences require less maintenance and use fewer resources. Betafence applies this principle with the use of tough Zincalu® and Trigalv® coated wire mesh. What’s more, the bottom selvedge wire on some fence products has an additional corrosive-resistant coating. Well-designed knots and appropriate wire spacing allows any impact to dissipate across the fence, providing inbuilt shock absorption.
Fencing wire is available in a wide range of lengths up to 224cm high for the management of large animals. A galvanised wire netting stockfence with smaller mesh sizes along the base provides cost-effective security by keeping small animals out of large animal enclosures. In fact, the extensive range of Betafence products means there’s a solution for smallholders, equestrians and stock keepers, however extensive their property might be. Mild steel razor wire can be added as additional security where needed.
Wire netting represents a good value choice for smallholders and the growing number of urban poultry enthusiasts. Hexanet® six-twist netting, available in a range of lengths, heights and mesh sizes, is a good option both for chicken wire and for pens and hutches for small animals.
