Gabion stone constructions are a quick and effective way to turn your garden into a peaceful retreat. They are easily installed, keep you visually secluded and help to reduce the impact of nearby noise. With an impressive range of decorative options available, you can also use them to make a space that's unique to you.
The great thing about structures of this type is that they offer the benefits of stone walling with an easy-to-build system. It’s also a very versatile option which will mix and match well with other elements such as traditional or contemporary fencing. Betafence’s Zenturo Super panels, for instance, can be used with decorative metallic-coloured strips and also to create gabions containing lava stones or other attractive infills.
Betafence’s Gabion Stonewall has been designed specifically to create large walls that meet ISO standard 10140-2. This is based on a lava stone fill gabion of 30cm, which should reduce sound passing through the structure by 9dB (decibels). This can make a substantial difference to noise levels from neighbours, factories, or roadways.
As well as providing protection, stone constructions of all sizes and types give your outdoor space a relaxed organic look. Thanks to the tough materials used in the structures, they’re also very durable and require minimum maintenance. Six heights of welded mesh panels are available in the Zenturo Super series, all of which can be easily used to create gabions using Zenturo posts and spider fixators. Gabion Stonewall uses an innovative new invisible post which means the supports cannot be seen once complete. The square posts are hot coated while the panels are Zincalu® coated for corrosion protection, making them a good choice for the UK climate.
The word is from the Latin for “cage”, creating the sense of enclosure. Historically, metal cages filled with stones were used as an ingenious way to provide underwater foundations for buildings. Now, gabion baskets, cages and other designs provide great opportunities to get creative in the garden with natural materials and plants. Just add imagination!
